FIRST
SUMMER
The cotton garments in this collection have been pigment-dyed to achieve a subtle textured look, that is neutral in tone while delivering a washed, fresh summer feel.
First Summer brings a fresh, new and intentionally designed ‘understated’ look to their latest assembly. Heavily inspired by MID 90s streetwear and elements from the 70s; with warm, neutral and brown tones.

The Split Shirt, unique and intriguing at first glance. This garment features elements borrowed from 80s and 90s streetwear, including the woven polyester/nylon material and non-contrast zip. The Split Shirt is an oversized boxy fit inspired by the classic oversized button-up short sleeve shirt staple made popular in the 80s. The way that light is captured and reflects from this garment is truly unique, each angle a different look. The Split Shirt is available in two colour options, Burlap and Hazel.

The Basketball Tank is constructed with a mid-weight loopback knit cotton/poly combination, the same material as the Split Shorts. It features reverse stitching on the front bottom right and a jacquard knit trim of the By The Creator emblem, both elements inspired by the classic Basketball jersey. The Tank is available in Hazel.

The Undershirt, a tight fit that magnifies every silhouette. Intentionally designed to achieve an understated, low key look, with the ability to be worn relaxed, dressed up or down, the Undershirt is a staple that has a place in any wardrobe. Inspired by mid 90s underground skate culture & providing a new take on the singlet by revamping this classic fit with a heavyweight, cotton and elastane construction.
Process
Initially, when designing the concept - I was toying with the idea of a curtain backdrop, something that looked surreal in contrast with the water.
I quickly realised that it was going to be harder than I thought to scout a location that would allow the large-scale use of water on-site, not to mention have facilities that could drain and fill.

1.

I ended up landing on a warehouse space that had a very easy going owner & rather than working with a freestanding backdrop with curtain, I opted for a suspended pulley system from the ceiling.
3.

The pulley system allowed us to make slight adjustments to the velvet backdrop, throughout the shoot and to ensure the curtain was taut.
4.

Once I had set all the facilities on set up and ready for hair, makeup, and models; we began to fill the water space with a fire hose.

The final result was an unbelievably fun day and a truly surreal feeling result.
